A leading aluminum producer relies on FOOKE’s state-of-the-art Gantry-type Aluminum Plate Milling Machine for the precise machining of cast aluminum ingots. Specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of the aluminum industry, this machine delivers maximum efficiency in material processing.

The ingots, measuring up to 275.6" x 90.6" x 24.4", are securely clamped on the machine. Equipped with two powerful direct-drive high-frequency spindles (each 590 hp, 3,000 rpm, 1,033 lbf-ft), the system performs high-performance milling with ease. Thanks to advanced High-Speed-Cutting (HSC) technology, the process produces small chips that are perfectly suited for downstream briquetting.

With an impressive material removal rate of up to 2 x 2,441 in³/min, machining times are drastically reduced. This performance is further enhanced by an adaptive feed rate control system, which automatically adjusts to the material properties to ensure maximum efficiency and consistency.

 

Custom Vacuum Clamping System

The aluminum plate is placed on a modular vacuum clamping table, equipped with adjustable longitudinal and transverse grooves. These allow for flexible fixation of plates in a wide range of formats. Once positioned, the vacuum system is activated, securely and evenly holding the plate in place.

The full-surface clamping force minimizes vibration, improves dimensional accuracy, and ensures an excellent surface finish. An integrated monitoring function provides additional safety, guaranteeing secure fixation of the workpiece throughout the entire machining process.

With a large milling tool diameter of up to 122", our customer efficiently removes excess material in the first pass. The FOOKE Aluminum Plate Milling Machine allows for a cutting depth (ap) of 0.004" to 0.08" (0.1 – 2.0 mm) and a cutting width (ae) of up to 118".

Following rough machining, the finishing process ensures the required surface quality. The FOOKE machine achieves a surface roughness (Ra) of less than 11 – 16 microinch (0.28 – 0.40 µm), fully meeting the high demands of precision plate manufacturing.
